So much sunshine! Now protect yourself from sunscreen

shutterstock_111465218-850x500I’ve just read a message from Essentially Yours to say that they’ve restocked their sun products this year twice already! No one expected this much sunshine and it’s good news that more and more people are beginning to take notice of healthy sun protection.

However one of the Essentially Yours’ customers, who is very into health and wellbeing sent in this shocking video on the cause of skin cancer from sun screens.

It’s well worth looking at as this information is not reaching mainstream media yet and if you’re outdoors a lot this year training and at shows and events, please pay attention…

PS. If you hate horse flies as much as I do, you’ll like this product even more  – Natural Elements No: 1 Reviving Body Oil, made with Tea Tree, Patchouli & Geranium in a 200ml bottle, is not only good UVA protection, but is brilliant at keeping pesky flies away. Just the thing for dog handlers who compete outdoors in the sunshine.  I personally use and love it.  Horse flies definitely don’t like it – I know! Check it out

Here’s what Essentially Yours say about the video above

For many years, we have been told to shield ourselves from the dangerous rays of the sun by using strong and ample amounts of SPF to ensure we don’t end up with skin cancer. However, in recent years, various studies are beginning to uncover the inconvenient truth hiding behind this vicious lie.

First and foremost, the sun is not an evil predator out to cause you harm. Actually, the sun provides us with the necessary vitamin D to function and lead healthy lives.
And many sunscreens actually block our vitamin D production, on top of being filled with toxic chemicals that have known links to cancer. Despite people slathering on the SPC, the Centre for Disease Control recently reported that skin cancer rates have more than doubled in the previous 30 years.

With that being said, scientists continue to blame this increase on the sun, while continuing to overlook the obvious reasons.

Typical sunscreens are created with hormone-disrupting chemicals that affect how hormones such as estrogen and other hormones work within our body. Due to these chemicals and how they act in our bodies, exposure to them can cause a number of issues for us and our health.

OMC (Octyl MethoxyCinnamate), the main component in many sunscreens that litter the shelves today has been shown to kill mouse cells at even the lowest of doses. Furthermore, when exposed to the sunlight, this chemical can become toxic. According to The Truth About Cancer, titanium dioxide (another ingredient in typical sunscreens) has been listed as a carcinogen by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and health. And it gets even more nefarious from there, with Oxybenzone being used, despite the fact that it is one of the hormone disruptors listed above.

If that isn’t enough to make you want to throw out the SPF, think about it: For years, people went out in the sun, and nothing happened to them, other than maybe a slight burn here and there. Cancer rates only recently began to rise, around the same time as sunscreen was pushed hard and heavy on the masses.

In one study, that was issued by the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Manitoba, Canada, found a significant rate of penetration of the chemicals included in traditional sunscreens, meaning that all of the dangerous chemicals I listed above are absorbed within the tissues in your body.

Another study, carried out by the Environmental Working Group found that half of the usual 500 most popular brands of sunscreen actually increase the speed of the growth of malignant cells that cause skin cancer.

So what can you do to keep yourself safe?… Instead of applying toxic sunscreens, wear a wide-brimmed sun hat that covers your entire face. Also, wear a swim shirt, and sunglasses. Umbrellas are also helpful. There are also all-natural alternatives, that can be found here.

Remember, the sun is the most potent from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. during the summer months. So enjoy your sunshine but in moderation!

Luckily Essentially Yours have natural sunscreens back in stock now

Essentially Yours Natural Sun Protection products offer a way to free your skin from the harsh chemicals in sun products (SPF’S). I use them all the time now and can highly recommend them.

How do natural sunscreens work?

Important…. Skin protection from UVA

71829334-244b-4043-ba08-8be63ecc1004With this week prediction that we are going to see 30+c in the UK with even more powerful UVA (Ultra Violet A), I recommend you make sure you look at the Essentially Yours UVA oil. You can even use it under your SPF (Sun Protection Factor). UVA ages the skin and is responsible for much more skin cancers than UVB.

When you’re working outside, UVA bypasses many SPFs. It actually goes through shade, clothes, glass & water and speeds up damaging free radicals. Luckily, natural oils can stop that free radical damage. A further worry is that many chemicals in SPFs have also shown they increase the damage of UVA, so the natural oil can act as a barrier to such nasty chemicals in the SPFs. If you want to know about what’s in SPFs, find out more

Skin Cancer is now the No. 1 killer and life changing surgeries are taking place on a daily basis

“I recently read this report below from John Hamilton,  non-medical dermatologist and MD of Essentaily Yours about SPFs in sun creams. Like me, most dog handlers, are outdoors a lot as we train and compete outdoors in all weather conditions, but critically we don’t always remember to protect their skin.   Farmers are the same…  That’s why you often see farmers with skin problems on the tops of their ears. I care a great deal about sun protection and think it’s worthwhile to stop and think about what exactly we’re all putting on our skin”. Ceri Rundle

a1a5a830-62ca-4b1e-9688-225aca2f7d71At a recent Research Centre for Cancer,  of almost 20 years, John asked a Scientist, “Just what are you doing?”.

Skin Cancer is accelerating at huge rates, yet some Scientists still stand behind the recommendations to use and trust SPF’s whilst dismissing the many new studies that link SPF to Skin Cancer. Note that according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), “data fails to show that sunscreen use alone helps prevent premature skin ageing and skin cancer.”

Evidence has shown that countries who population use large amounts of sunblock have the most skin cancer. John even heard a Scientist say a particular brand of SPF is safe, so decided to take a look into the ingredients. This SPF is one of the very few SPF’s that does not contain Dioxides which is great but the ingredients it does contain are below. Hardly Natural or safe!

  • AQUA / WATER
  • DIISOPROPYL SEBACATE
  • ALCOHOL DENAT
  • GLYCERIN
  • DIMETHICONE
  • ISOHEXADECANE
  • BUTYL METHOXYDIBENZOYLMETHANE
  • OCTOCRYLENE
  • SILICA
  • DROMETRIZOLE TRISILOXANE
  • ISONONYL ISONONANOATE
  • ZEA MAYS STARCH / CORN STARCH
  • C12-15 ALKYL BENZOATE
  • STYRENE/ACRYLATES COPOLYMER
  • ETHYLHEXYL TRIAZONE
  • PEG-30 DIPOLYHYDROXYSTEARATE

(1) Very high levels of alcohol which on your recommend site EWG show are linked to cancer and are molecules which are restricted in cosmetics because of toxicity. Remember, the higher an ingredient is on the list, the more potent it is in that particular product.

(2) Petrochemicals are heavy metals, an the item that leading cell decay Scientists at Cambridge University say causes cell decay and damage.

(3) BUTYL METHOXYDIBENZOYLMETHANE is what this SPF uses to absorb UVA. Again, on the website EWG, it says it has links to cancer.

(4) OCTOCRYLENE: When this chemical is exposed to UV light, it absorbs the rays and produces oxygen radicals that can damage cells and cause mutations. It is readily absorbed by your skin and may accumulate within your body in measurable amounts. Plus, it can be toxic to the environment

(5) Silica is highly toxic and restrictions are in place when working with it to not be overly exposed. However it is often found in SPF’s like this one.

(6) DROMETRIZOLE TRISILOXANE has not been approved in many countries, including IE and the USA.

When speaking with the Scientist at the recent Research Center, she didn’t disagree that there is a deficiency in Vitamin D throughout the Western World. Many recommended SPF’s on the market today stop us absorbing Vitamin D.

Interesting Fact: On Tuesday (May 1), Hawaii’s Legislature passed a bill to ban sunscreens containing the common chemicals oxybenzone and octinoxate, effective Jan 1, 2021. The ban follows research suggesting that sunscreen drifting off the skin of tourists can damage coral. Imagine what this is doing to your skin? Check out the full article here.

Why John and Karen don’t use SPF

John & Karen co-founders of Essentially Yours and Natural Elements / Therapeutics brands explain why they haven’t used SPF for 20yrs…

and they are better for it

f173e545-185b-4833-894b-77aed5c916d7 (1)

‘I’m much more careful now about what I put on my skin than I used to be. I’m outdoors so much with the dogs and need something to protect from the sun. However the last thing I want to do is cause serious skin problems through using SPF.  This article, written by the co-founders of Essentially Yours explains the dangers of SPF .’ Ceri Rundle

After 20 years in the development world of skincare, with the last 5 years following the university’s research of leading scientists in cell decay and  causes of damage to cells, we believe that the chemicals in sunscreens are the root cause of skin irritations like Rosacea.

Reports back from eczema sufferers this year show that cleared skin issues came back immediately after using a sunscreen. This further points at the fact that SPF products are toxic to human cells. Worse still they also could actually be causing skin cancer…

In the USA in the last few years it has  shown in a clinical test that when the ingredients  in all SPFs are present, it dramatically speeds up the oxidative stress of free radicals. This  in turn  causes cell decay, ageing and the damaged mutated cell [cancer]. This is why Karen and I simply don’t use SPFs ever.

We prefer to use antioxidant oils to protect us from the free radical damage caused by the suns UVA rays. While this does not stop us enjoying the sun in shorts in the garden or going on holiday in the sun, you do have to be careful.  While the oils in all our products neutralise the very damaging UVA rays, you can still get burnt by UVB. However, you’d have to be somewhat careless, for example, staying out in direct strong sunlight for too long, which even when you use a SPF is damaging.

This works for us enormously and we are told by thousands who also experience using natural oils it works for them. We get great tans which last into most of the winter and of course, because we don’t use SPF’s  we can absorb vitamin D from the sunshine – the most important of all vitamins, which are totally stopped by wearing an SPF.

Did you know that 2/3rds of the western world are hugely deficient in Vitamin D and rickets is coming back?

Enjoy the sun at the weekend? But does your SPF protect your skin or make it worse?

30707258_1893388187360398_4831019270440505003_nAccording to a recent poll, 80% of people don’t understand what SPF protection means and 56% didn’t know SPF only protects against UVB rays not UVA rays.

For all dog handlers (like me) outside in all weathers, it’s important to understand the facts about UVA and UVB and that we need to protect our skin against both.

What is UVA & UVB and what is the difference?

UVA light contributes to skin ageing and the development of skin cancer as it penetrates deeper into the skin. It has a consistent intensity throughout the day, all year round and can penetrate through cloud and glass.

UVB light is more intense and leads to the redness and sunburn that is indicative to some degree of damage which in turn can potentially lead to skin cancers.

Think of it as UVBurn and UVAging!

Essentially Yours work hard to develop the best possible products for your skin. Try using these products in conjunction with your normal SPF product to give you protection against UVA damage.

Did you know that shampoos, shower gels & deoderants are strong pollutants?

Screen Shot 2018-02-22 at 11.53.52

methodetimesprodwebbin704bae52-1346-11e8-aa39-e7299ff3a5e8By John Hamilton, biogerontologist &  dermatologist.

When this article appeared  in papers this week all over the UK and the USA  it prompted me to remind everyone of our non- toxic shampoos, shower gels and deodorants etc.

It’s interesting that not only do most personal care products pollute the world with harsh chemicals going into the rivers and seas, but now its been proven conclusively that they cause cancers and illness in humans on top to damage to skin and hair daily.

I have been saying this since 1998 when I was one of the first to talk about Dr O’Conners study at Brunel into parabens and breast cancer… it’s not just parabens we need to be concerned with… its lots of personal care product ingredients.

When so many people are said to eat healthily and follow interests like yoga for wellbeing, yet ever morning, the same people cover their whole body with chemicals which not only damage the skin but can go into the body within 30 secs.

I was looking in a department store last weekend and yes many organic products are overpriced  £20+ for a shower gel, so they can be beyond many budgets.. but we are not at all like that … You can get affordable, harsh chemical-free products with the world’s most potent natural health benefiting oils, which are actually good for you and smell great (the best in the industry & not synthetic perfumes the real oils).   AND REMEMBER  you can also use them as a body wash and shampoo.. don’t be misled into thinking you need both… because you don’t.

What does Essentially Yours say about sun protection?

uva-monserFirst listen to what WHICH? consumer adviser magazine said… “Many could be putting themselves at risk of skin cancer this summer by using a moisturiser with a sun protection factor (SPF) on their face with inadequate sun protection.”

Cosmetics labelled with an SPF number aren’t designed to be across the spectrum sun-protection products and may not offer protection against the sun’s UVA rays, which could contribute to the risk of skin ageing and cancer. They’re not suitable for even short intensive bursts of sun.”

Allergies now effect 50% of the population, Now sunscreens are contributing to skin problems. Read more

The big question is can you trust what you buy in the shops?

Brand marketing implies that branded products can block out both UVA and UVB. The ads carry lots of photos of seaside images, while saying “we are passionate about sun care and protecting your skin from the harmful effects of over-exposure to the sun’s rays.

Essentially Yours don’t do make-up, cosmetics or fragrance – just the most effective, most efficient sun protection you can buy.
